<image:title>Blog - Fuji ‘s Dough & Ramen - A small shop in east Vancouver, Washington with a cute and clean feel. We were greeted by kind staff that had us seated very quickly. Unfortunately, the ramen was lack luster despite the excellent presentation. The taste was oddly sweet and missing that rich umami flavor that I look for.</image:title>

<image:title>Blog - Boru Ramen - While my first journey for ramen in the DC area was fruitful, this one I was not so lucky. From the outside, Boru ramen appeared to be a hidden gem. The shop had a small yet comfortable feel. The service provided was lackluster, as being one of only two customers in the shop, it was extremely difficult to receive service. The ramen itself was very bland in nature and had an odd aftertaste that borderline offensive to the tongue. I left this shop feeling extremely unsatisfied.</image:title>

<image:title>Blog - Kaiju Ramen - A rather refreshing change from the typical ramen shops I’ve tried, Kaiju offers bold and unique combinations. Their prok belly was surprisingly tender and the quail eggs offered a new texture that was extremely satisfying. The decor included a ton of anime figurines and LED lights that gave a really cool “otaku” kind of feel.</image:title>

<image:title>Blog - Mirakutei Sushi & Ramen - Mirakutei offers a rich paitan style ramen that is sure to explode your taste buds. This was the richest broth I have had so far and struggled to eat even half of it! The pork belly had excellent flavor but was quite tough to chew. The noodles were medium thickness and rather firm. The portion size was very large with ample toppings and the staff were very welcoming and friendly. This is a solid option if you are looking for ramen in Portland, though Mirakutei is know for their sushi and sake selection.</image:title>

<image:title>Blog - Kenji’s Ramen - Perhaps the best ramen in Vancouver, WA so far, Kenji’s is a solid option if you need to scratch an itch. You have the ability to completely customize your bowl of ramen but beware: the toppings add up quickly. Kenji’s is quite non-traditional with a more americanized flavor profile that is suitable for ramen beginners or picky eaters. Their ramen noodles hold up very well in the broth but can sit heavy in the stomach. Their pork belly is usually quite tough to chew so I tend to opt for chicken katsu. My favorites are: curry ramen and the garlic onion. Kenji’s also offers very delicious non-ramen options and cocktails. The restaurant has recently remodeled to be extremely aesthetically pleasing, so it’s perfect for a date night!</image:title>

<image:title>Blog - Kyushu Ramen Noodle Bar - Kyushu is my go-to when I’m craving Ramen while visiting my home town. They offer a paitan style ramen with a rich and hearty flavor. They offer a somewhat customizable experience by listing different meats that can be paired with any ramen bowl. Kyushu is one of the few places I opt for the chicken karaage rather than the pork belly, as their pork belly fell flat for me texturally, and flavor-wise. I tend to gravitate toward the garlic tonkotsu and have yet to try other broth options!</image:title>

<image:title>Blog - Meshikou Ramen - Welcome to my hometown of Columbus, Ohio! Here you will find Meshikou Ramen, the most average ramen you will have in every sense of the word. Nothing about this shop really stands out. The meat was mildly tender, the noodles moderate firm, and something to be desired in the realm of toppings. One thing you will learn about me is that if you are only giving me ½ of a soft-boiled egg, chances are I will not be returning. In their defense, the price is right, specially with ramen running $18 plus nowadays.</image:title>

<image:title>Blog - Koku Ramen & Bites - Koku ramen and bites is perhaps one of the more beginner friendly ramen shops. I say that to mean that those who may be unfamiliar with the strong flavors of traditional ramen would enjoy “dipping their toes in” with the tonkotsu. The pork belly was thick and tender and the noodles maintained average firmness. I was pleased by the flavors but still felt like there was something missing. One of the more notable things about this place, however, was their cute yellow color scheme and friendly staff. It’s definitely suited for for a casual date night. I was also impressed by their wide selection of japanese sodas and alcoholic beverages.</image:title>

<image:title>Blog - Afuri Ramen & Dumplings - Afuri ramen is another highly recommended shop in downtown Portland that was wildly popular upon their opening. Boasting a large space and ordering via a touch screen, this shop is every introverts dream. Until the food is delivered by a staff member that lacks the passion the bowl of soup does. Given their popularity, I was… disappointed to say the least. Unfortunate to say, I think this may have been some of the worst ramen I have ever eaten. Despite ordering tonkotsu, the broth was oddly fishy and… sweet? The smell itself was nauseating. They use a thin noodle in their dishes, and thus it did not stand the test of time and ultimately disintegrated into my broth. Save your time and wallet and skip this stop on your PNW ramen journey.</image:title>

<image:title>Blog - Ramen Ryoma * - Specializing in authentic and affordable ramen, this shop will meet your standards no matter what background you may come from. Upon walking in the door you are greeted with a loud “irrasshaimase!” (welcome in japanese). Even with a full waitlist, you aren’t guaranteed to wait very long. The staff and friendly and the service is quick. They offer three broth varieties: Miso, Shoyu, and Shio. See details on all three below. Ramen Ryoma offers handmade noodles that hold up well in the broth without being too heavy on the stomach .Their pork belly is tender, and their base bowls include a good variety of toppings. This restaurant is a regular go-to for when I’m feeling a bit depressed and want to feel better. All of their food is excellent quality, and it always pairs well with a nice glass of fuji apple sake</image:title>

<image:title>Blog - Kizuki Ramen & Izakaya - Kizuki Ramen is easily one of the most highly recommended and popular ramen shops in Oregon and Washington. They boast their first come first serve limited stock Garlic Tonkotsu Shoyu ramen and a variety of other ramen bowls. Naturally, I had to check them out… A few times. The first thing you notice upon arrival is the ambiance. It has a sophisticated and modern japanese feel with clean facilities. While some shops, like Ramen Ryoma, showcase a small business “hole-in-the-wall” feel, Kizuki displays the finer dining side of ramen and their price reflects it as well. When you are seated you are offered complimentary tea and water. Now lets get into the meat of things shall we? I’ve tried a few of the ramen bowls offered on their menu and what I can say is this: solid. Their broth is mostly flavorful and rich, with numerous toppings included. Their noodles stand the test of time and maintained firmness throughout the meal. Their pork belly left a bit to be desired as I had to chew a bit more than I would like for Chashu. All in all, a great place to take a date!</image:title>
